The "Kite Runner " movie was not shot in kabul. It was shot in Kashgar China , because of its similar looks. This film had been delayed so the Afghani children could be moved to a safe place. It took a total of six weeks to finally show this movie on Fri. December 4th. There were three children who were put in danger due to this movie. The main boy was, Ahmad Khan Mahmoodzada(Hassan) and he was the one who had feared his life the most. Afghanis already don't like others in their business so they aren't going to wan't a movie portraying things about their culture. Ahmad is now 13 and says if he had known any better when he was younger, he wouldn't have played the role. The boys were not the only ones in danger, but the cast and crew as a whole. After some time the Afghani boys were sent to the United Arab Emirates by Paramount Pictures to assure their safety.
The main issue Afghani people had with the movie is one of the main scenes in the story. In both the book and the movie Hassan is raped in an alley by Assef. The Afghan people were floored by a distasteful rape scene and didn't appreciate "their" people being portrayed that way. There are other things that would offend Afghanistan, so just imagine the severity of this thing in particular. When they had casted the children, the violence was on the more controlled side and it was a less stressful time. It just so happened at the time of the proposed movie release, Afghanistan was back to being hateful and violent.

“Art is supposed to reflect the reality of the world and I
try to write these books as truthfully as I could,”
- Hosseini
